U values measure the thermal efficiency of buildings. The
lower
the U value the more thermally efficient a building is.
Timber frames generally have a U value of 2.0. Single glazing
has
a U value of 5.8 and standard double glazing has a U value of
2.2.
With a greater emphasis on preserving energy, glass companies
have made significant improvement in the overall thermal
efficiency of conservatories and it is now possible to get
glass
with U values as low as 1.1. This means that today you can
have
a conservatory which is 500% more thermally efficient than a
single glazed one. |
